Home Green Home

Posted on Jul 13th, 2007 by Katrina : Wholarian Katrina

As I've been writing, I just got my new home. Now it's time to turn it GREEN!

I have already painted the bedroom with low VOC paint. (it's beautiful) I have ordered swatches of organic cotton and hemp fabric for curtains. I ordered a swatch of hemp wallpaper for the bathroom. I have insulated roman shades on some window. I am switching the bulbs to fluorescent. I replaced the showerhead with a filtered showerhead from Gaiam. I have organic cotton sheets and towels, etc.

Some of my future plans include:

1. Replacing the carpeting with bamboo floor covering.
2. Painting the rest of the rooms with low or no VOC paint.
3. Purchasing a more energy efficient refrigerator.

Now, there are certain things I cannot change. Because I live in a co-op, the heat is included, as is the water and the gas for the stove. So I can't put up solar panels. The good news is that I don't use the stove much because I eat about 80% raw so that isn't much of an issue. But I am ready willing and able to make the changes I can.

This is where YOU come in. I would love ideas and suggestions to make my home as green as possible (within certain budget limits). Please let me know what you would do if you could.

Let the GREEN ideas fly!

Now kick back in your favorite chair or sofa, light up some sticky “green,” relax and enjoy your new abode.

question to better answer the question: can you describe the co-op and how that works?

my answer in general is this:
make this a home base for planning ways to make green building and energy technologies more widely available, desireable and economical, in business ways that we can implement on a scale big enough affect the lives of all beings on the planet.
